Ned’s Point Light
Veterans of Mattapoisett Memorial Park, Ned’s Point Road
First lit in 1838, the lighthouse guided boaters into Mattapoisett Harbor for several decades. The stone tower was built on 4 acres Barnabus Hiller sold the federal government for $240. The pear-shaped tower was automated in 1923 and its keeper’s house relocated. The town took ownership of the land in 1952 when the lighthouse was decommissioned, though the Coast Guard retains ownership of the beacon.

Shipyard Park
Water Street
Shipyard Park is a memorial to the town’s strong shipbuilding legacy. Josiah Holmes founded his shipyard at this site in 1812 and together with two other Mattapoisett yards, produced an astounding 47 ships during eight of the busiest years around the mid-1800s. Take note of the park’s flagpole, which is the mizzenmast from the Wanderer, the last whaling ship built in Mattapoisett in 1878.
