The city Parks and Recreation Department manages West Beach on West Rodney French Boulevard and East Beach on East Rodney French Boulevard. Both have free parking, restrooms, outdoor showers and seasonal lifeguards.
 
Fort Taber
This waterfront property housing a Civil War fort since the 1850s is now reopened to the public for exploring the military batteries, the fort and the harbor. Walking paths and picnic areas have also been added around the city’s Water Pollution Control plant, making the area accessible again. While not open, Clark’s Point Light is visible from outside the fort.
 
Acushnet Cedar Swamp State Reserve
New Plainville Road and Shawmut Avenue  
Located in New Bedford and Dartmouth, the Acushnet Cedar Swamp State Reserve has been designated a National Natural Landmark for giving many rare and endangered species a home. It is one of eight cedar swamps owned by the public in Massachusetts.
