Marion is a seaside
village with neatly lined streets of historic homes and
churches and a scenic waterfront where sailboats are in
ready supply.
Because the former
village of Sippican is very exclusive with a
resident-only beach parking policy and a shortage of
boatyard parking, many visitors pass over it. But its
lovely views, arts center and easy-to-walk streets make
it worth the stop.
Visitors want to
look offshore for Bird Island Lighthouse – Buzzards
Bay’s first lighthouse – and on the mainland for Tabor
Academy, Town Hall and Music Hall. The buildings were
all funded by Elizabeth Taber, a Marion native who
showered her wealth on the community after her
clockmaker
husband died.
