Beaches
Hotel and motel beach passes are $10 daily while non-resident beach parking stickers are $200 per season, $90 for four weeks, $80 for three weeks, $70 for two weeks and $60 for one week. Stickers can be purchased at Surf Drive Beach. Daily parking is $10 for Surf Drive and Menauhant beaches and $20 daily for Old Silver Beach.

Ashumet Holly Wildlife Sanctuary

This 49-acre site is managed by the Massachusetts Audubon Society and features 65 varieties of holly trees along with Franklinia trees, a tea plant named in honor of Benjamin Franklin. The non-profit society also offers natural history cruises to Cuttyhunk Island most Sundays from mid-July to mid-Oct. Cruise fares are in addition to the regular admission fee.
 
Beebe Woods and Peterson Farm

The 383-acre Beebe Woods feature extensive trails and ponds and were acquired in the 1870s by James Beebe, owner of a dry goods store in Boston that later became Jordan Marsh. In 1966, Josiah K. Lilly III, heir to the Eli Lilly & Co. riches, saved the land from a 500-home development by purchasing it as town conservation land. Peterson Farm is an 88-acre farm adjacent to Beebe Woods and one of the oldest farms on Cape Cod. It is accessible from McCallum Drive.
 
Bourne Farm

Three owners have worked this 1775 farm over the years, but today, it’s more show on the grounds with the 18th century home. Owned by the Salt Pond Area Bird Sanctuaries, the 49-acre Bourne Farm has trails open for public use year-round and has tours in July and August.
 
Cornelia Carey Sanctuary
End of Quissett Harbor Road, off Rte. 28
This property is a little challenging to find because signs say Private Road, even though it’s open to the public. Those who keep going will find the 13-acre sanctuary on Quissett Harbor with high plateaus featuring brilliant views of Buzzards Bay and the Elizabeth Islands.
 
Frances A. Crane Wildlife Management Area
Rte. 151
Stocked with game during the fall hunting season, this 1,900-acre state reserve makes a great hiking spot during other seasons.
 
Goodwill Park
Between Rte. 28 and Gifford Street
Given to Falmouth by the Fay family, this 86-acre park features Grews Pond, which is stocked with trout and has a public beach with lifeguards and restrooms.
 
Sea Farms Conservation Area

Trails wind through 67 acres of woodland, fields and marsh with frontage on Bourne’s Pond.
 
Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve

This 3,000-acre reserve is Cape Cod at its best, with 15 miles of coastline, beaches and marshland, set aside for preservation, recreation and research. The reserve is headquartered at the former Sargent Estate at the head of Waquoit Bay, with the visitor center in the property’s 16-room mansion along Rte. 28. The reserve also includes the South Cape Beach State Park in Mashpee, the 330-acre Washburn Island and property along the Quashnet River. The reserve is ripe for kayakers and fishermen and camping is allowed
Kayakers and fishermen will want to visit and limited camping is allowed on Washburn Island.
 
The visitor center is open Mon. – Fri., 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Falmouth has two paved bike paths that connect in Woods Hole. The Shining Sea Bikeway runs four miles from Locust Street to Woods Hole and offers stunning views of Vineyard Sound while the 155-mile Claire Saltonstall Bikeway from Boston to Provincetown has a spur between the Cape Cod Canal and Woods Hole.
