Harwich

With three harbors and a large municipal marina, Harwich is a boater’s dream.

Among Cape Cod’s oldest towns, Harwich was incorporated in 1694 and named after an English community. It originally held present-day Harwich and Brewster, along with parts of Orleans and Eastham, and today has seven villages of churches, antique shops and beaches.

Harwich prospered early on in fishing and cranberries, with the first commercial bog operation harvested here in 1846. It is also the birthplace of Capt. Jonathan Walker, known as, “The Man with the Branded Hand,” after he was punished for trying to help slaves escape Florida in the 1840s.
