Orleans

While many Cape Cod towns are named after English communities, Orleans is named for a French figure: King Louis-Phillippe de Bourbon. The King was the Duke of Orleans and in exile from the French Revolution when he visited the area in 1797, shortly before a significant moment in Orleans history: the town's separation from Eastham.

Once a popular saltworks, whaling port and home to the famous French Cable Station, Orleans is now sustained by its natural beauty and the tourists who come from all over for Nauset Beach's deep pink sunsets and purple-streaked skies.
