Scituate

Set
along a rocky coastline, Scituate’s waters posed
great challenges to boaters early on and required
several lighthouses. But years later, Scituate
Lighthouse stands only as a reminder of rugged
seafaring days and a symbol of youthful ingenuity
that saved the town from British attack.
Visitors can see the light up close or from across
Scituate Harbor while downtown. More inland is
another interesting site, the Lawson Tower, a unique
compromise millionaire Thomas Lawson made in 1902 to
disguise a water tower near his large estate
Dreamwold. Across the street sits the First Parish
Unitarian Universalist Church, one of the nation's
oldest religious groups.
